Why I Chose Journalism.

When you are at high school or college studying, there is always that one subject that stands out to you. You can make a career out of this subject.
  • Study your interests further
  • Decide how this can make you an income
  • Enjoy life
"The beauty of journalism is that you can write about all types of subjects, be it fashion, travel, fishing, golfing, astrology or cigars. You don't always have to take it so seriously..."

While reading English at The University Of Sheffield, I had a vague idea of what I wanted to do. I had to think of what would earn me a living from something I genuinely had a passion for. Therefore the natural choice for me was to explore the field of journalism.
Being a professional Journalist gives one responsibility for justice and truth all around the world. I would like to inspire others and help shed light on issues that are under-represented. I am particularly interested in new experiences and therefore my ideal job would be as a travel journalist. I want to constantly visit and have experiential adventures that I can relate back to my target audience to enrich their reading and curiosity. I am also interested in Fashion Journalism and I contribute to ChareeMag every month.
All types of writing has intrigued me, and during my course at University I was lucky enough to be able to explore a few types; Poetry, Short Stories, Sonnets, News Letters and Feature writing. I still practice poetry in my spare time and sometimes if I hear a snippet of an interesting conversation I note it down in my book for future reference - It may inspire a story!
After completing numerous placements at several different offices, of a newspaper and a magazine publishing type, it confirmed my desire to work in such a fast paced industry. I now study MA Magazine Journalism at  The University Of Central Lancashire.
